NBF embeds sustainability at the core of its business, focusing on environmental preservation, social impact, and economic resilience.
Sustainability for NBF is about fair pricing, farmer empowerment, and shared prosperity. These efforts reflect a commitment to healthier ecosystems, stronger communities, and a resilient, responsible future for organic food production. Beyond farming, NBF invests in community development, including infrastructure, education, and improved livelihoods for rural families.
A major climate initiative, The Cactus Project, aims to achieve carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and across the full value chain by 2045 through large-scale carbon sequestration and regenerative practices.
Our central Indian facility now replenishes more water than it consumes — returning 1.14 KL for every 1 KL of water used through on-site rainwater harvesting, recharge systems, and treated-water reuse, making the plant volumetrically water positive for FY 2024–25.
NBF has adopted 52 schools in rural and farming communities to strengthen access to quality education. Our efforts focus on improving infrastructure, sanitation, drinking water, and learning environments.
Over 1,800 solar street lights have been installed to improve safety, visibility, and mobility in rural areas. Powered by renewable energy, these lights reduce carbon emissions, ensure reliable illumination, and support community life after sunset, creating safer and more resilient villages.
NBF has renovated and constructed 33 ponds and stop dams to enhance water conservation. These structures support groundwater recharge, improve irrigation access, and reduce seasonal water stress. Strengthening local water systems helps farmers adapt to climate variability and sustain agricultural productivity.
More than 1,25,000 hectares of farmland have been converted from conventional to organic practices. This transition improves soil health, promotes biodiversity, and reduces chemical dependency. Farmers are supported through training and guidance, enabling sustainable agriculture that benefits ecosystems and livelihoods.
NBF has planted over 6,80,000 trees to support ecological restoration and climate resilience. Tree plantation improves biodiversity, prevents soil erosion, enhances carbon sequestration, and strengthens agroforestry systems.
Single-use plastic has been completely eliminated across our operations. By adopting sustainable alternatives, we reduce environmental pollution and plastic waste. This achievement reflects our commitment to responsible consumption and encourages cleaner, more circular practices throughout our value chain.
Over 15 million litres/kilograms of synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers have been prevented from use. This reduction protects soil, water, biodiversity, and farmer health, while promoting natural farming practices that restore ecological balance and support safer, more sustainable food systems.
NBF Sustainability Reports present transparent insights into environmental, social, and governance performance across operations and supply chains. They cover farmer livelihoods, climate initiatives, certifications, traceability, and ethical sourcing, while outlining future targets. These reports help stakeholders track progress, risks, and long-term value creation across the global organic ingredient ecosystem.
NBF’s community development initiatives focus on strengthening the ecosystems where organic farming begins. We invest in farmer training, organic transition support, and programs that improve long-term income stability. Our initiatives extend to education, women’s empowerment, and rural infrastructure, helping build resilient farming communities. By promoting fair livelihoods and capacity building, we enable farmers to adopt climate-conscious practices while maintaining productivity. Through partnerships, field programs, and continuous on-ground presence, NBF works to create lasting social impact while supporting the global growth of responsible organic agriculture.
